Trying to date a newly acquired Export Kit. My feeble research tells me that it's possibly 2000-20001 ELX fusion in Blue Mist. Previous owner Frankensteined a little bit as the snare stand is a Tama Roadstar and the Hi Hat stand is an SP. I I've upgraded the bass pedal to a P-920 as the P-100 that came with the kit lacked adjustability which I need for my 8 year old son whom I purchased the kit for.

^ Your export looks like a 2001 ELX Export Select series in color #273 Blue Mist. Shells were 6-ply Asian Mahogany with matching wood snare 800 series hardware.

So now that I've bought my son a kit I've got the bug. I found a set of exports on Craigslist yesterday at a very good price. I'm now looking at restoring these shells and going the Frankenstein route to complete the kit for as little $$ as possible since they'll be staying in the garage should I decide to keep them. My main concern is the rack toms. The kit only came with 1 tom arm which doesn't even have a name. It extends into the bass drum cavity and tom cavity as well. Can I just use any tom arms as long as they are 7/8" (am I right?) and should I be looking for a certain length? I'm just trying to find the cheapest fix that is still functional; so basically any "generic" tom arm that will work. How long should these tom arms be? The one it came with is about a foot long but I don't think I need to extend that far into the cavity? I'm going to start breaking down the shells to clean all parts and will then decide if I'm going to redo them with a wrap or stain. I've included pics of all the gear and am hoping someone can give me a hint as their age. I'm thinking 80's? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Easier to mic your kick drum with the port.
The port will affect your beater rebound.

I will probably never use a mic so I’m just considering switching to the pearl logo one, I guess it will just lower the bass drum sound a little. I have the EXX 10, 12, 14, 16, 22

If you bury the beater when you play bass drum, you'll want it ported, most likely. Even if you never mic it.

It also changes the sound which you may find more to your liking.

It sucks to experiment with drum heads, they're expensive. But the more you play, the more you'll get into how to nuance the sound and feel of your kit to your liking.

But I must say that it has a more low end bass punch to it without the hole in the resonator. The good thing is I prefer the lower bass.
