Yup. If you want a beginner kit, get a Ludwig Accent, a Pearl Forum, or a Yamaha YD.
Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute 7pc
Sabian/Zildjian Cymbals
Promark Sticks
My drums are prettier than your mother.
Pulse sucks. You're better off buying cardboard boxes. At least they're foldable.
They're cheap, useless tat.

I don't think that you'd be happy with them if you bought them, if that is any help. At your age if you are looking into a set, I would look at the other ones mentioned, or a quality second hand set. Both the Ludwig Accent ($350 new) and the Tama Stagestar ($390 new) would be better sets in the long run. So for $50-$90 more you could have a pro set. Well, Jr. Pro.
If you were just asking for general purposes, then I'd say I would classify Pulse as a starter kit, one that parent's buy their 12 year old when they don't know much about musical instruments.
And if I am not mistaken, I think those $199 drumsets in WalMart are Pulse. The ones up front next to the telescopes and the Strat (copies) with the speaker built in.![]()

dudme put it nicely, but being a former owner of a pulse set, i cant tell you how important it is to get yourself into drums with a real instrument, not just some crappy psuedo wood tubes with crap hardware.
