I saw a story about Mr. Watts that he had a large and impressive car collection but no drivers license. He had suits made that matched the interior of many of the vehicles. He would put a suit on, sit in the car with the engine at idle for 15 minutes or so and then go about his day.

I hope to HELL that’s true.

    RIP classy 2&4 guy.

My heart is truly broken. Charlie was a huge influence on me. He was a cool and classy guy. Thanks for the last 57 years of drumming.

    Drag, man.

Keith Richards has told a story that during the high-point of Jagger's lead singer syndrome in the '80s Mick continuously referred to Watts as "his drummer" just to antagonize Watts. Jagger drunkenly phoned Watts' hotel room one night, demanding "his drummer" come to his room, so Watts showered, shaved, put on a suit and tie, then knocked on Jagger's hotel room door. When Jagger opened the door, Watts punched him in the face and told him "I'm not your drummer, you're my ****ing singer!"
    "Why is that mirror sneezing?"

"Ah, look, it's just an old, creaky mirror, y'know, sometimes it sounds a little like it's sneezing, or coughing, or talking softly."

A legend and gentleman of music and beyond. A fond thought recalling my father-in-law is the same age and from the same place, they'd even pass as brothers.

An influence and inspiration to many, thank you, Sir Watts.

    R. I. P. Always admired how he played for
the song. Classy and solid. Time for me to
break out Between the Buttons. Thanks
again Charlie. He had a great run.

Very sad. He was my favorite drummer; mainly due to his classy demeanor. We lost another great one. The Rolling Stones will never be the same. RIP Mister Watts.

I’ve heard a similar version of that story. Somehow, I can’t see Charlie punching anyone in the face, but if he did it I’m sure it was both warranted and “classy.”
