Default Pearl ICON Rack Setup HELP!

    Hello all,

I am thinking of buying a 3-sided rack, but had the idea of doing two single sided racks, one on each side of my bass drum since right now I am only playing a 5 piece kit (2 mounted toms, 1 floor). I might add a second snare down the road and possibly another tom, but for now, I was thinking that instead of a 3-sided rack, two one sided racks might be best.

With that said, can anyone share photos of their two one-sided rack setups using the ICON system?

    Thank you in advanced!

    J.

An old pic of my Masters MCX using a split ICON. Most of the split rack variations I've seen are of a similar configuration with toms mounted off of the front legs. Only real decision is whether you want the tom mounts directly in the leg posts (requires shortening the legs) vs. mounted with clamps.

Gotta say, this looks great, and I love your new Masterworks kit as well!

I see that your using the 3-sided with the masterworks kit versus the 2 1-sided racks like in the masters kit in this pic above. Do you have a preference or reasons for one over the other?

    Thanks!

If you look around the internet for photos of 'stealth racks' or 'low [profile] racks', you'll find a lot of inspiration material.

No preference really. I had been messing around with splash positioning out in front of the rack toms and just found it easier to position stuff on the extra bar. Biggest drawback with the front rack bar is aesthetics, it can take away from the look of the toms if it covers the shells and if you're gigging it's another clamp/connection you have to breakdown vs. just pulling apart two side racks. On the flip side, you have more mounting room/options out front. I have mine as low as it can possibly go over the kick so it's not so prevalent when viewing from the front.

Good points on both sides... this will be a tough choice, but I appreciate the feedback!

I really love my setup on 2 side racks.
    Fits perfect.
I did cut like 25cm off the legs.

Looks great, thank you for sharing!

Quick question... do you have caps on the poles you cut down? If so, where did you get them? Thanks

I realize this wasn't directed at me, but I've done the same. The ICON comes stock with removable plugs in the leg poles. If you cut them down you can just re-use the plugs, no need to buy new ones.

Exactly! I cut the pipes (by machine) and re-used the black plugs.
If you don't have these plugs, search for this part: Pearl NP-338

Awesome, thank you for the part number! The rack I bought (used) did not have those caps, so I need to replace them. Thank you!
