I used to post regularly on this board in the early to mid-2000s under the username Marinesrx87. Unfortunately I don't remember the password and the username is attached to an email that's no longer in use. Needless to say, this is my first post in probably 5 years or so.
So I found an RFP kit on amazon for a steal, ~$1300 for a 20, 10, 12, 14 setup in natural lacquer. I loved the drums, but hated the finish. I also didn't find the 14 adequate and wanted to add a 16. So fast forward to today, and I found a deal on a 16 on ebay, and snagged it. Sadly when it showed up, it turned out to be gold and not natural. I assumed the pictures were just poor quality in the ad, and it didn't list a color. Regardless, that gave me a reason to refinish the kit. After a week or so of deliberating I went with a blue pearl wrap.
I had very little experience wrapping drums, but i'm fairly handy, and fortunately despite a few snags along the way, i'm very happy with the results. Please have a look at the completed setup, along with my drum room.

I've seen natural maple yellow that much on older Pearl drums. Nice re-wrap job! Did you rout a slot for the inlay on the bass drum hoops?

while I am never in favour of covering up wood grain, that blue is really sharp.
