    Default A Session at last!

The first time working in 6 months finally arrived last week, and sadly looks like i'll not be doing much else this year work wise, so i'm going to use it to get a home recording rig up and running. In the meantime back the the session I did last week, in a lovely studio in Newcastle, UK, for an album hopefully to be out early next year. Its a 30th anniversary recording of an album called 'The Boys Heart' by Martin Stephenson and the Daintees (the original can be found here - https://daintees.bandcamp.com/album/the-boys-heart ) and its being re-done with 3/4 of the same lineup from the original, with Martin, and the guitarist and bass player, and then with me on kit, and the original drummer (Who is actually my grandfather) guesting on a track. Heres some shots from the 2 days of drum tracking and percussion overdubs. The gear used is as follows:

    - Natal Cafe Racer kit in British Racing Green Sparkle (18x14” BD, 12x8”, 14x14”, 16x16”)
    - Natal 14x5.5” Originals maple snare drum (Black metallic lacquer, with Yamaha Vintage batter hoop)
    - Natal 14x5.5” Purestave Walnut snare drum (with Groove wedge)
    - Natal 14x4” Chrome in brass snare (with groove wedge)

Evans UV1 heads on tom and snare batters (UV2 on COB snare), coated G1 tom reso heads, Hazy 300 Snare side heads, EMAD BD batter. Snareweight M1 dampeners and Meinl Drum Honey gels.

Cymbals (changed depending on the track):
    - Sabian 13” AA regular Hi hats
    - Zildjian 18” K Custom Session ride
    - Zildjian 1970’s 18” A Ping ride
    - Zildjian 19” A Armand ‘Beautiful Baby’ ride
    - Zildjian 18” A Armand Thin crash
    - Zildjian 17” A Thin Crash
    - Zildjian 16” A Medium Thin Crash

    - Pearl Drums hardware and pedals
    - Protection Racket cases and seat cover.
    - Vic Firth Dr. Steve Gadd sticks and brushes
    - Promark cool rods and MT3 Mallets
    - Audio-Technica M-50X headphones

Playing a 60's premier bass drum with felt mallets, to compliment some overdubbed tom parts

Me and my grandad after the sessions, was great (If a bit nerve-racking) to have him around, with stories of the old days flying around!
