I never understood the large holes. Were they for volume? Or just looks, sacrificing sound? I say sacrificing sound, I never played one but in my mind I figure cutting how large chunks of wood means less resonance and less sensitivity

My OCDP 20-ply was super loud and tons of projection. It was pretty much one dimensional snare, loud projecting with no warmth. I played it 2-3 times live and never had to mic it because it was so overpowering even over the high amplification.

ear shattering piercing loud is what I remember.

I'm going for volume AND looks, sacrificing sound (quality/diversity) then
