Default Mimic Hihat Controller 04 MIDI Channel Setting

MidiOx shows the Mimic outputs Controller 04 data on midi Channel 1. That's non standard for drums. How do I change it to Channel 10 as it should be? There are many settings to set each individual drum's midi channel input and output but I do not see any parameters on any screens for Controller 04. As set up, recording into Protools on Channel 10 omits the Hi hat Controller 04 data so the recording is not usable. Hopefully I'm just overlooking the setting somewhere. Posted this on Facebook. No reply. Nothing in the manual. Thanks for any help.

    Hi,

So the midi notes are on channel 10 and the CC4 is on Channel 1?

I have recorded Midi files using the Mimic and I never had this issue.

Everything was sent to channel 10.

Did you ever try the reset to default function on the hi-hat trigger page?

Let me talk to the developers about this.

Correct. I have not reset the unit yet. Really surprised there isn't a setting.

When you recorded, you set your DAW to receive and play back on Channel 10? If you set it to all channels or omni, it does work because it's recording Channel 1 also when setup that way.

I did see that it does send the CC4 on Channel 1.

Omni is one way or you can change your channel from 10 to 1 to make everything uniform.

Why? And why no way to change it? Further, why no reference in the manual? We spent a lot of time in Protools and on forums to figure out the problem. Turns out Pearl implemented non-standard but didn't provide that info any where I can find.

I was planning to try this, which should work in theory. The problem is it also requires changes to other MIDI devices on Channel 1 or omni, like a keyboard. Recording live with keyboards, the Mimic is playing the keyboard samples too. It should work but it's quite a bit of trouble to setup.

The Mimic receives Controller 04 on Channel 10 since it plays with a DrumKat and Octapad sending on Channel 10. It also plays the variable HH if I manually use the MIDI editor in the DAW to add Controller 04 changes on 10. Why it receives on 10 but doesn't and can't send on 10 makes no sense.

Can the ability to set the Controller 04 be added in a firmware update?

The Mimic is a great module but desperately needs this feature. This impacts everyone using the Mimic to trigger a VST In their DAW or asked to record a session and send a MIDI file with the audio.

    Hope the feedback is helpful.

So Pearl just leaves the customers hanging in the balance with the problem Pearl created without explanation? Surely some Pearl engineer thought putting Controller 04 on Channel 1 vs 10 was a good idea for some reason. Care to share? Understanding that info might help customers use the module. I've purchased three Mimics thus far so I'm not kicking tires.

    Hi,

We are not leaving you hanging, I have contacted the developers and they said you may have contacted them already.

It is truly up to them to decide about this function but I will make a suggestion to them.

In the meantime, I will experiment with some options.

If contacting them means I posted to the Mimic Facebook page then , yes, I did that. However, there was zero response, which is what prompted my post here. In the mean time, I figured out "what" it's doing (non- standard) but I don't know "why" it's designed that way (could be benefit I don't see) but excluded from the manual so users know. Also don't know "why" Pearl believes hardcoding it non-standard is a good idea. I can change this setting in a DM Pro designed in 1998 so supporting non-standard is not a new idea. Not being able to adjust a non-standard setting is the new idea.
