Default MM's Masterworks 8" cocktail snare drum PICs

    Hi,

Here's my latest custom project. It's a 5-lug, "cocktail" snare drum made from an 8"x5" Masterworks tom (RFP specs).

The SR-150 strainer is offset to accommodate the 5-lug Fat Tone hoops. The bottom hoop is drilled for the custom snare side.

The Pearl snare wires are Pearl SN032 (10") wires that I cut down to 8" and then soldered back onto the end plate. This was a painstakingly difficult effort that caused a lot of burning, so I had the chrome plating restored afterwards.

The snare sounds good (considering it's small size). It didn't need snare beds (due to the narrow diameter of the shell), but I cut them anyway.

Nice. That has got to be the only one in that size.

    Thanks.

It could be the only one. I like making unique modifications for my own collection.

That turned out really nice. It must have been hard to get the snares placed with 5 lugs.

    Thanks.

It actually wasn't too hard to find the different places where the snare wires could go.

However, making the custom 8" snare wires with the "Pearl" end plates was hard to do.

It sounds fine. However, there isn't much to the sound of a snare drum this small.

It really serves a specific purpose and is more of a novelty.
