    Default Gretsch Renown Rock 13, 16, 24

I'm struggling with whether or not to pull the trigger on this. Used one of these in satin white (which I like a lot) for $700 (no snare/hardware. etc).

Anyone have experience with the Renown rock sets?

    Also looking at a ddrum maple 4 piece (13, 14, 16, 24) for $550.

    And - somewhat - a PDP MX 7 piece for $550

    I just sold a Gretsch Renown shell pack: 24, 10, 14.

Likes: All drums sounded great. Bass drum was particularly good; probably the best kick drum sound I've ever owned.

Dislikes: Floor tom legs way too thick and not long enough. Floor tom cranks stuck out too far. Made it difficult to get in a case. Lacquer finish was stunning but easily scratched.

I believe he is referring to the wing nut that tightens the legs into place.

Thanks will do. I picked them up last night for $600. I'm going to take the hardware off and clean everything. There are a few smudges on the white satin finish which I need to remove and the hardware needs a cleaning. Batter heads are shot. This was a gigged kit for sure. One of the floor tom legs has chrome flaking off. Never seen that before. I'm thinking of replacing the legs with Gibraltar 12.7mm anyway. They do seem very short - Andy H mentioned above.

Otherwise the kit is beautiful. Like the 24" kick alot.

Anyone have experience with removing smudges from matte/satin finishes? I see a ton of bad advice online which I'm avoiding. TIA

Do it! I have played several maple Renown kits and owned a Renown Mahogany kit a few years back. On par with the Masters stuff.

Quick clean up on the 13”. Still trying to figure out the best method for deeper cleaning of the satin white finish for smudges that mild soap & water cant get. Seen a vid where a guy used Invisible Glass (ammonia free), wipes off and then uses isopropyl alcohol $ microfiber towel on a satin lacquer finish motorcycle tank guard. The smudges came right out and it didn’t alter the finish at all. Not sure if that translates to satin lacquer drum finish??? May test on small section of kick underside.

Same guy I bought this from is selling a cherry Gretsch USA Custom 6.5 x 14 bronze snare for $300. Would look and sound great with this Renown....
