I've never seen a BLX in person, but I have done work on some late model Superstars and their shell construction is some of the best I have ever seen. They are essentially Tama's Recording Custom kit.

Completely ridiculous by today’s standards but quite a cool relic.

Yep, definitely ridiculous, but back in the day you were a god. Speaking of rediculous, I just outfitted my Tama Rockstar bass drum with a Remo Starfire Chrome reso head. I wouldn't do it with modern drums, but on an 80's-'90's kit, it looks right at home.

I need to get new bass hoops though. The chromed metal ones combined with the chrome head and the chrome hardware make for way too much chrome. I think dfd has 22" bass hoops on sale right now. I should pick up a set and paint them black.

Hoops ordered! Need to cut the inlay channel, chamfer the back edge, stain/paint them black, install the inlay and boom, that bass drum is going to look damn sexy.

That sounds like a LOT of work. “Camfer”?

Chamfer. Its that little relief cut in the inside of the hoop where it meets the head. I have all the tools to do it. With the router, its not a difficult job to do all this.
