    Default New Kit!

My Session Studio Select kit with the 20" kick arrived Monday. [EDIT: Two photos of the full set up are in a post at the bottom of the next page.]
Although I have them unpacked and tuned up I haven't actually played the kit yet. I replaced the kick batter with a single ply EMAD. That was a BIG improvement! Speaking of the bass drum I also got a Red Line Eliminator single pedal and Yamaha Crosstown Hardware Pack.
As far as the finish, for years I was nuts over #114 Liquid Amber but this Crimson Burst kit takes my breath away every time I lay eyes on it! The bang for the buck on these drums is off the charts.
Sunday I'm going over Billy Baker's and he's going to install a BB-3 on the kick. I've got a gig Saturday night and even though the cases aren't in I think I'm I'm using the new drums. I can boom a rack tom off of one of my old stands.
The 16 got unpacked first. I'll post pictures of the whole kit after the BB-3 is mounted and some other things occur.

I understand the BB3 and am a proponent of kick mounted tom holders, BUT DON'T DO IT RON HAHAHAHA. That kit is gorgeous, and the BB3 is going to negatively affect the aesthetic. I don't have much room to talk, as an advocate of SONOR'S Rocket Launcher, but drilling that kick is a mistake in my humble opinion. You'll get used to the virgin kick and who knows, maybe Pearl will finally do something with the BB3 design. This is all in good fun, do whatever you want man, gorgeous kit congrats Ron!!!

I hear you. At this writing I have about 24 hours to change my mind. Since receiving the kit I've pretty much decided the Antique Crimson Burst is my favorite finish ever! I think the kick is the best looking drum of this particular kit. In the last few days looking at it I have thought from time to time covering any of that gorgeous finish would be a shame. But, most of the time the drum just doesn't look normal to me until I sit the BB-3, still in its pack, on top of it. I came to grips with the look of the tom arms long ago. It took some doing, actually.
Thanks for the input. Next time I'm up that way we should go grab the dirtiest (Old Bay) steamed crabs we can find and some beer and have a good ole fashioned Maryland crab feast!

Congratulations on receiving your new kit! It is a beautiful finish.

In regards to adding the BB-3, I am on the other side of the fence. Having it added was one of the best decisions I made. It is functional and very convenient. Since I only use a single tom, I added an external mic connector for the internal mic.

    Thanks for the good wishes!
The first photo is a crummy cell phone pic from Saturday night first night out with the new drums.
The second photo is one of the one's Billy Baker sent illustrating he was done and the drum was ready to be picked up 3 hours after I dropped the kick off to him. Super great guy!
