But old rehearsal-room Exports still do the business! Played on these old tubs on Sunday in a jam session - the left kick possibly predates my existence, and the right side is all 90's era.

Could do with some new heads, but still perfectly serviceable and actually sounded pretty good too

Imagine that! That's why I played them for 28 years! Exports really are a work horse kit. With heads and tuning they hold their own in the drum world.
Mic'ed up it's hard to tell the difference between any kit.

Now, when I got my MCX kit the difference was night and day. Mostly because of the warmth the maple provides. I seriously don't run a space heater in my basement in the winter any longer because the maple is so warm! Ok, not seriously.

But another thing I noticed on a higher end kit was the precision of the tuning rods and swivel nut.

I loved my old ELX. The Exports are good, solid kits.

Well, we were jamming out some Metallica tunes, and I was suffering from a severe lack of hardware - so I ended up swapping out the ride that was originally there for the china (as, well, we were jamming out Metallica tunes so who needs a ride anyway?

I'm actually having to use all my will power right now to not buy an ELX kit I've found for sale. It's a Cobalt Fade (with black hardware, as it should always be) in 22,22,12,12,13,16. Still unsure why the duplicate 12, but I'd flip that anyway. As much as I want it, as I've always loved that finish, it's just another kit I don't have need and don't have room for, and won't get played. Seems stupid to buy it and then stash it away, never to be used.
