What is your Favorite WOODD Snare you have ever played .

I have many snare drums and was interested in knowing what you thought was the best wood snare you have ever played along with whatever heads. There is no time period on this so you can go back as far as you like.

I have wooden snares from the 30's. When I say "best" I am referring to warmth, response, whatever you feel makes a snare sound great.

My favorite is probably a Cleveland Rogers Dyna.

I’ve never had the pleasure of playing one myself, but hearing it many times live and on recordings, the Slingerland 8x14 radio king (maple) is my favorite.

Craviotto Cherry\Maple 5.5x14 with 30 (I think) strand Puresounds. Standard Ambassador heads. It was in the roster at this studio I was recording at.

DW 14x6.5" Neil Peart ICON snare, R40 design, Outer ply of Dyed black Pearwood with all wood inlays rather than paint, over a Romanian River oak shell. 24k gold Hardware, with MAG, 3P Butt plate and True Pitch tension rods. Proud to own no. 20 of the 250 made.

That’s been my main snare since ‘04. GMS Grand Maters Vintage Maple with a mappa burl finish.

Edit: It’s Tamo Ash. I don’t know why I said otherwise as I knew it. Brain fart I guess.

It's a very nice drum, and you're keeping it very nice. I see many older GMS drums with much more deterioration, like on the hardware and badge... not yours.
