Default MM's collection of bell bronze Free Floating snare drums (all sizes) !

    Hi,

I'm always looking for unique ways to enhance my Pearl snare drum collection.

Here's a set of the (4) sizes of the lastest generation of Pearl Free Floating snare drums with genuine bell bronze replacement shells (cast by Oriollo). I replaced all of the die cast hoops with Fat Tone hoops (which I prefer).

The sounds ... well, it's bell bronze with FF technology ... enough said

Very swish! You said cast by Oriollo. Is that a figure of speech, or are they cast? Do you have any more pictures e.g. inside the shells?

Also what heads are those? They have an interesting edge that doesn't look like Remo, but I know you use a lot of Remo heads so I am interested...

    Hi,

Oriollo is a company in Serbia that will custom cast with the bell bronze (and other materials). Each of the shells is 3mm thick.

The heads are Remo Powerstroke 3 coated. I'm not sure what you are thinking is unusual about them. Are you referring to the bottom tray of the free floating system?

Doesn’t the Pearl badge on the shell imply that the shell was made by Pearl?

No. Pearl doesn't make their own metal shells anyway. I also noted in the original post the the shells were cast by Oriollo.

Moreover, these are Free Floating drums where custom replacement shells are common.

No? You really believe that placing a Pearl badge on shell does not have the implication that the shell was made for or by Pearl?

No, I don't. But, I think you have a problem with it.

If you don't think it's a good idea, then don't do it for yourself.

I'm proud to play Pearl drums and certainly don't mind endorsing the brand. The badge helps.

Only an issue, in my opinion, if he were to look to sell the drum and refer to it as a pearl-made shell.

That said, and not to hijack this thread, Pearl has used DrumArt shells and does not put the DrumArt name on the badge:

Of course, some folks put a "5.0" badge on their V6 mustang, but it doesn't go any faster

    Good points, and I agree.

It's silly to make an issue out of one component of a drum when it is common practice to interchange components (hardware, heads) anyway. Should we insist that all metal snare drums are "Taiwan" snares because various companies buy the same shells from the manufacturers there and put their different badges on them?

Or, what's the point of buying a shell from a wholesaler, putting their brand name on it, and then using a bunch of hardware from another drum company? The concept of a "snare drum" is not just the shell.

No not the FF system, the collar of the head. It looks white as if it has the haze of the coating on it, which I think I remember is on the Evans heads I got recently, but not any Remo. Never mind, I was just curious about it.
