Absolutely. We do tend to struggle with the more "Exotic". I am in the Classic Car Business & do have quite a bit powder coated. Keep toying with the idea of trying it on an old stand to see how it goes

Definitely worth a try, and a nice business idea for those that want the black stands from other brands. The only other company than mapex I know who will do them is DW, who I believe will do black or gold with a 50% upcharge.

The issue with powder coating drum hardware is that it must be completely dismantled so no rubber or plastic parts are involved as they will not survive the heating process that powder coating uses. That's labor-heavy and as we know, a lot of drum hardware is not meant to be taken apart (pop rivets, etc). Also, you'd be asking a dude who specializes in one art to be good at another. My thought is that you'd have to dismantle everything first then bring them.

    Good luck.

The other thing with powder coating is the mass it adds. Drum hardware is designed to fit inside other bits of drum hardware, often with fine tolerances. You add OD mass to this with powder coating, and you find things no longer fit. So to avoid that, all the chrome plating needs to be removed from the hardware before it's coated, and then the coating needs to be ideally the same thickness as the original plating. I believe Pearl's black hardware is electroplated like chrome, but I could be wrong.

Just get you a rattle can of glossy black. Or flat black if you're feeling a bit saucy.

There is no way I could possibly be wrong... I'm never wrong. Just ask my ex-wife!
