Default Tri-tom mount madness and a work-out on Big Teal!

Had off today so I decided to mess around with some more tom mounting options. I've never liked mounting my toms on stands, only on the kick drum and on floor tom legs. I had a dilemma though with my 8" tom but it's now solved. Behold, tri-tom madness! From the driver's seat view, it looks like they're floating. LOL.Name: tritop.jpg

Well, it's certainly different. I like your ingenuity.

Some years ago, I decided to go triple toms on my kit, and I wanted them centred over two kicks. Problem in that is the left and right toms would cover the BB3 mounts on each kick, so they were out of the equation. Here's what I cam up with.

It's a stand base with long tom arm in it that holds the centre tom (the 12"). From that is an AX-30 clamp, which holds the left (10") and right (14") tom, using reversed arms.

I just did that to see if I could do it. I've since arranged them horizontally.

It actually worked - I just didn't like hiding behind the kit.

Yes, they are. Thick shells, lots of projection and volume. Still warm enough to be played subtly, but naturally not as articulate as an MMX for example

Thinking about this a bit more, I'd be tempted to use a piece of rack bar to mount the toms. Some time after the triple tom stand I made up above, I went to using two front racks tied in the middle. One day messing around with rack parts, I tried out an ice for a free standing front rack - two upright legs with single curved cross bar. Worked a treat after I put slightly longer feet on it to counter the forward weight of the hanging toms (you must remember my CZX drums are ridiculously heavy).

So, looking at your set up, I think it would be very easy to do something similar. Mount the middle tom using the tom mount as you have done, then clamp up a 24" curved bar, and mount the 8" and 12" either side directly to it using short tom arms. This would give you much better angle and spacing adjustments, and an overall cleaner look.

Parts needed: 24" curved bar (SC-GPR24C), 3x rack multi clamp (SC-GCRMC) and your existing tom arms (or shorter ones for the 8" and 12" drums)

If it didn't take so long to dismantle and re-set up my kit, I'd mock this up to demo it

Haha I think MasterBlaster56 was trying to get the full "tri-fecta" out of his kits abilities.. I will say those muffling rings make your drum heads look like their about to do battle. It just looks.. I dunno. Beefy. I bet they sound amazing.

Nightclub its so crazy your actually rather have your rack toms mounted to your bass. I'm the total opposite but that is a good way to use pearls triangle mount. I like virgin bass drums... To me they produce a better sound (this is my personal opinion please take no offense) than bass drums holding up my toms. Plus I find I'm able to move my rack toms around better when mounted to a cymbal stand.

Thrush your wall of cymbals to the right (of where youd sit behind the kid) is inspiring
Plus you have an awesome kit and very beautiful snare
