You've just confirmed my own findings.
I was just wondering, and that was actually the only question in the OP, if this was 'normal practice' back then.
To me it looks like it was 'thrown together' to get that kit out of the door. I'm totally fine with that. Happy with the age/dating and provenance. Just somewhat surprised but apparently that's how things went. Cool either way. No worries!
    That's all cool
Sometimes people don't want to be told.

As to "normal" practice, I would have asked why I was getting something different to what I was seeing in the catalogue.
I would put it down to one store rather than usual practice...

You can take the question mark off after 83 BLX .. because it is a 83 BLX .. that is Birch wood grain and the shell is 6 ply - 7.5mm

    nice clean shells

Thanks for looking, the replies and confirmation!
Happy with the kit. It's being played regularly.

The first owner did indeed take care of it but to make it shine like it does today took some doing on my part ;-)
At first I was planning to resell just the hardware (I have a lot of red & gold label hardware in very good condition) but I changed my mind on that. These stands are just fine. A fair bit lighter, smaller footprint and they do the job.

Now, I would love to own a matching 14" floor tom (BLX-2114) Any pointers from the 'collectors' on where to find one?
Any condition will be considered. I'll buy a kit containing the 14"FT if that's what it takes ... :-)
