The general national sentiment is that D-Day is the beginning of the Allies' liberation of the Germans from fascism, rather than the beginning of their defeat in battle, and I think that's about the best outlook that a nation in that position could have. The fact that an invitation is extended to (and accepted by) Germany's leader to take part in the commemorations would suggest the nations who undertook the military operation seem to agree with that outlook.
Itís a very sensitive subject amongst the friends I have there as well as people Iíve met on tour. My generationís grandparents allowed that POS to gain the power he did. Itís hard for them to have ill feelings towards them.

I don't know if allowed is the right word. It was a " cake or death " situation.

Here's a picture of a salvage yard that is about 2 miles from the Illinois River. The '93 pic gained world wide attention before " viral " was a thing.

Now it's just a reason to get attention. This young girl loves attention disaster or not. There is also one of a local duck / goose call maker / out fitter on the car. He went out of his way a took a goose decoy with him to pose with. Pathetic.

It went from an instant nostalgia photo to " look at me !"

Water is not quite as deep as in '93.

This is the reason the road will be closed for months. All this water will have to be pumped back in to the river after the water subsides.

I promise not to beat a dead horse with this stuff until the road opens. We'll see how long it takes!

    Cheers to all!

That's crazy. I just got back from Arkansas and I had to take a different route coming back through Missouri than I did going down due to the flooding getting even worse. I drove through miles and miles of fields that looked like lakes. It's BAD in Eastern Missouri and Western Illinois. Stay safe man, keep us posted!

A stupid old lady I work with lost a bunch of documents in the landfill she calls an office. Because I'm the one who gave them to her (three months ago) she's blaming me and demanding I find them or get her new copies. It felt really good to tell her I put them in her inbox and it's not my problem she lost them. She's one of the most miserably rude people I've ever met, and sometimes it's nice to give it right back to someone like that.
    "Why is that mirror sneezing?"

"Ah, look, it's just an old, creaky mirror, y'know, sometimes it sounds a little like it's sneezing, or coughing, or talking softly."
