    Default C&C Custom Maple Kit

I don’t really frequent or post here anymore, but these are too gorgeous to not share. The best part is I got them in an unexpected straight across trade offer on craigslist for a high-end mic preamp that I was selling.

This kit is from the old C&C days when they still used Keller shells. It was built for and used by Scott McPherson (M. Ward, Elliot Smith, Beck, Bright Eyes) who now runs Tackle Instrument Supply. It’s got Gretsch roundover bearing edges, Gretsch T-rods on the kick and a drop dead gorgeous hand-painted gold sparkle laquer finish, with matching inlays on the kick. The sizes are 18x14, 12x8 and 14x14. When I close my eyes, they sound like a lot of round badge Gretsch kits that I’ve gotten to play. They’re unbelievably warm, resonant and are a joy to play.

Pictured with it is my 1940’s Gretsch Renown 14x6.5” 3-ply maple snare. It’s a bit of a frankenstein, having 60’s Gretsch die-cast hoops and a Roger swiv-o-matic throwoff and butt plate, but I’ll never get rid of that snare. Cymbals are early 60’s 12” A. Zildjian hihats and 16” thin crash, 22” Meinl Byzance Big Apple Dark Ride and 16” Bosphorus Master Vintage crash.

    Thanks! I believe they're 6-ply with re-rings.

Very nice!! Keller 6 ply shells are only 4mm thick. Those must be very resonant!

Indeed! And the whole kit is ridiculously lightweight.

No, you have not been on here for a long time and I personally have my feelings hurt.

It looks great. Trades are wonderful sometimes. The last one I made I got my first ever GMS kit back. It was a great feeling.
