MM's custom Masters Maple Complete Bombay Gold "Martini" style kit PICS :)

Hi,

I recently saw one of the MCT kits at a store and fell in love with the beautiful sparkle finishes that are available in this series. I decided to pick up a few of the shells and make a little custom kit in the "Martini" sizes (since Pearl doesn't offer a kit like this). These drums sound fantastic (considering the small sizes).

14x12 kick drum (with custom SP70 spurs, BT-3 tom mount, and built-in JG-16 riser).
13x10 floor tom
12x5 Sensitone Custom Alloy steel snare drum (vintage)
8x8 tom

** I experimented with putting wood hoops on the little kick drum but it made no difference in the sound. Thus, I left it "cafe" style with the Super Hoops. I'm using Remo P4 Coated (with dot) for the batter head and Remo P3 Renaissance front head with 4" hole. This combination nicely focusses the sound with no internal muffling needed.

** The toms have Remo Emperor coated for batters and Remo Renaissance Ambassadors on the bottoms. Snare drum has Remo P3 Coated (with dot) for batter and Remo Ambassador Hazy for the snare side.

** The Pearl Flat Base hardware is upgraded with 1030 gyro-lock tilters and SBA-1 snare basket adapters.

The cymbals are A Zildjian 18" Crash/Ride, A Zildjian 14" Fast Crash, and A Zildjian 13" New Beat hi-hats.

The hi-hat tambourine is a custom piece I made with Pearl tambourine jingles.

Awesome rig.

For me though the 8" is a little too deep for my taste, and too small, I would've gone for a 10x7", or done a double tom set up of an 8x6.5" and 10x7". But i'd still rock it as is

The reasons I went with the 8x8 size are because it is how the original "Martini kit" concept was done, and also because it shows off more of the finish (since the tom is small and has a lot of hardware).

A 10x7 tom (or two toms) wouldn't characterize a "Martini" style kit either. I was trying to be specific to the original concept.

I was originally going to do this in Matte Black #124, but I thought the sparkle finish was a better option for this concept.

It's comfortable to play, but it takes a bit to get used to the 8" tom with the 13" floor tom.
