    Default 14X12 Floor Tom Stand?

    Hello Everyone,

I have an old Export 14X12 FT, but it doesn't have any leg mounts. I has one of those old rim mounts, but I've stolen that for my 16" tom to kick conversion. That said, I don't like hanging toms this large. I'm wondering if there are any stands out there designed for larger toms? I know about the S930D, but I don't think it will go low enough. I just measured the FT height on my practice kit and its sitting at 21.5" from floor to rim. The 930D drops to 14.57 and adding 12" from the FT will put it way too high for me.

Any other suggestions aside from hanging mounts or drilling legs?

    Thanks,

Does it have 6 lugs or 8 lugs?

You could replace three of your resonant side lugs with Ludwig Atlas mounts... they will serve as the lugs, and will accept floor tom legs. You just have to make sure the mounting holes in your shell are compatible with the range provided by the Atlas mount.

+1 Atlas mounts are great and you don't have to drill for them as they use the existing holes for the lugs.

Okay yea these look great, only problem is the price! WOW! I might as well just buy a new floor tom. I don't think they include legs in the cost either. I'll keep my eye on Kijiji/Ebay.

The best option is just to drill the holes for inexpensive floor tom brackets and legs. Most other options involve a significant cost.

Any local drum shop (or a carpenter) could do it for you in less than 15 minutes. It's a very easy process to lay out the mounts and drill the shell.

I've seen a bunch of guys around here who cut snare stands down for deeper scares or shallow floor toms. There are also floor tom cradles that you can get from a bunch of different places. It's similar in concept to a RIMS mount, but the drum sits in it and it has legs attached, so there's no drilling required.

    Hey folks,

Yes I was thinking about one of those floor tom cradles. Can't drill into it though as it's just on loan. Luckily during my hunt for a solution, I found a orphan 13" masters tom with mounting hardware on Kijiji. With my 14X14 FT I couldn't fit everything comfortably in my hatchback (we are talking full kit, guitar, two amps, and two humans). With the 13" due to less depth, it all fits perfectly! We are joyful. Thanks for all the replies. I didn't know about the atlas mounts which IMO are genius! Might have to look at some Ludwig gear in the future. The optimounts have always irritated me when it comes to tuning.

Also, if you have an extra, sturdy snare stand available, you could take the top tube out w/basket and put it down alongside the base (leg feet) part and connect with a Gibraltar SC-UGC clamp. this sometimes allows for much lower profile.
