Got mine about a week ago just to see the finish in person.

Can't tell you how it sounds as I'm waiting for heads. I'm not even trying to play the factory heads.

I CAN tell you the finish is absolutely stunning in person! I think I'm finally to the point of selling the bulk of my satin hardware on eBay and going with a Session Studio Select in the antique crimson burst finish. I like the idea of having a fat side snare that matches the kit with a contrasting main snare. The crimson will look great with most of my main snares (aluminum, steel, and black brass).

The mods I will want to make are special ordering fully finished hoops and a 16"x14" floor Tom. Going back to chrome hardware will also make it easier to find upgrades such as reference series bass drum spurs and claw hooks. I already picked up an aluminum Opti for the 10" Tom... I'm getting stoked!

This drum can be found for $200. Just keep an eye out. Incredible value for sure.

    Hey DrumPlayerFTW,

Patriot Drum here, I got a 8x14 "SSS" snare with my kit I ordered, honestly, I had major trouble getting a good sound out of it right out of the box. I just didn't like the sound. I thought it should be deeper and more "woody and chunky", now that BEING SAID, I ALSO HAVE TO ADMIT THAT MY DEAR BRIDE HELPS ME TUNE MY DRUMS....I've NEVER in my life (OLD NOW) been very great at tuning. I ended up taking the snare to a local store and had the drum salesperson/drummer help with it. We literally took heads off and put others on till we got the sound I was looking for. … woody, deep and chunky. we left the stock bottom head and put on a EVANS coated G2 Level 360...and of course I HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE TUNING, except standing there and telling him what I wanted....now, my two snares this one and the PEARL Steve Ferrone Nickel Brass snare sound awesome but totally different from each other. I love them, course I love my new kit too A LOT !!! THANKS PEARL for making such awesome drums !!!

Thanks for the honest review of the SSS 14x8 snare. I'm considering ordering the 24,13,16,18 setup in the nicotine white marine pearl finish and I have never played a 14x8 snare.. The closest thing I had to that was a 14x7 DDrum Vintone Elemental Nickel over Brass Snare. but I love the looks of the SSS line and I'm really considering going with them over the Master's Maple Complete

Finally got my new heads in the mail. Put new fatty snares, top and bottom heads, and Angel hoops on the 14x8 crimson beast. Looks stellar. Pics soon.

I love that the sessions snares have the brass inserts. Kinda wish the rest of the kits did too.

What kind of process was involved with getting finished hoops?
you are not to blame for bittersweet distractors

I haven't started the process yet. I need to get my hardware swapped out and sell all my kits to fund the new kit.
