I was thinking about how some idiots bring a huge kit and to it now being crowded during the show they need to breakdown on stage.

Yeah well... I might be a territory-grabber, but I'm not an a*****e. I bring what fits the room but I DO stake my claim.

I played a gig once where the stage was just big enough to fit my kit (double bass 8 piece I think it was at that point) and the bass amp. The best of the band had to play on the floor in front of the stage. No craps were given by me.

Several years ago we played a dive bar gig with an opening band.
Their drummer brought a gorgeous Tama Artstar Cordia set -- twin kicks/4 rack toms/2 floor toms.
I got pretty excited thinking... "hey, anybody who hauls this monster to a gig must know how to use it."
Wrong. He was barely competent at keeping a basic beat and he didn't play a single tom fill all night. Not. A. Single. Fill.
I spoke with him afterward and he seemed totally oblivious to the situation.

    Mine went the other way.

Also, not a crap was given.

I strictly used a four piece for years, but now I've upgraded to a five (I would love to get a second floor tom, too). There are still plenty of shows where I can only fit/feel like doing a four piece, but if I have the space and willpower, I'll bust out the whole set (full five piece, three crashes, ride, hats and aux-hat). I like having all the extra toys to play with, but it's not always necessary.
Don't pick a fight with a drummer... we beat things for a living.
