Default Mike Mangini's 2019 Masterworks kit

Dream Theater posted some very nice live photos from their first show of the current tour yesterday, and here are some very good close ups of MM's new Masterworks:

    Interesting points:
    - Single bass drum, centrally aligned. The sound engineer probably loves this.
    - All the floor toms feature Pearl's-version-of-gong-bass-narrow-wood-hoop. I wonder if they are all single headed.
    - Clear acrylic quarter toms. I thought they were supposed to be aluminum.
    - The bottom of the kit is draped off, presumably not to show the middle pedal he is using. Could it be a not yet released prototype?

I think it was stated on the forum a few months ago that considering the modular nature of the Demon Drive, you can create a centered pedal.

I can't wait for the fallout with everyone screaming about his cymbal placement like they did when the video of them recording the album came out. I think its a nice looking kit overall.

Yeah, a DIY Demon Drive middle pedal can definitely be made, and somebody did it already (can't remember where the thread is), but if this was the case, I doubt they would go through the trouble of draping the whole kit off, wouldn't they?

Such an incredible drummer but to this day, I can't figure out how he plays so quick with that setup!

They added the rocket toms to the Crystal Beat line along with concert toms last year.

I hadn't spotted the "curtained" off lower part of the rig - how interesting. I was too busy thinking how he goes from one extreme to the other: he had to out-do MP's three-kick kits by going with four kicks, then went to single!

No doubt the medal is a custom build, and not necessarily by Pearl. I did ask on a video MM put up on Facebook sometime last year, when they were recording, asking if he would do a a kit tour as I noticed it was single kick, centrally aligned. But of course, no reply.

I'd be surprised if the curtaining was only there to obscure the pedal, although I can't actually think of another good reason why. That said, I can't think of a good reason to have the cymbals that high either (MM claims it's a) so that he can be seen better and b) it helps James LaBrie by not having the cymbals at his ear height)

For this tour DT are sporting a multi tier Maiden-like stage and MM's cymbals are way higher than ear level, as seen here:

That being said, I can't deny that that the drum and cymbal arrangement looks pretty impressive, when looked at from below (front row audience point of view, where that photographer was).
