    Default Sonor SQ1

Haven't posted a lot, of late (my 3-year old keeps me occupied!), but I just took some pics of my 1+ year old Sonor SQ1, and thought I'd share.

My god those are swell! Are you a Gavin Harrison fan by chance? Also how do you like the S hoops instead? They look great.

    Love the satin black finish.

Have you considered getting matching bass drum hoops?

I agree that matching hoops would look better. Otherwise, really nice kit! Did the kit come with the S-Hoops, or did you swap'em out?

Thanks! I am, indeed, a huge Gavin Harrison fan! I did get some ideas from his kit, as you can tell. Honestly, though, I've been using S-Hoops on some of my kits for about 8-9 years, so even before I knew Gavin used them. I did, however, take his idea of only putting them on the batter side. Previously I had used them on both the batter and reso sides. So yeah, I like the S-Hoops They provide just enough control, without choking them off. And tuning is easier because of the stiffness of the hoops.

I have! I wish Sonor had made them with matching hoops; they'd look so much nicer. I'm thinking I might talk to the guy who painted my Pearl MLX kit, and see if he can put the matching black finish on my hoops.

They did not come with the kit. I got them from Drum Factory Direct (great company to deal with, by the way).

It shouldn't be too hard to have someone make you satin black matching bass drum hoops. The black colors are easy to work with. Make sure you have them finish both the inside and the outside of the hoop.
