Default Looking for good overhead replacement mics

    Hi everyone

I'm new to this forum, first time drum recorder never done it before I went out an bought tons of gear..

What I currently have purchased for my recording setup
    Shure SM-57 on top Snare
    Shure PG52 on Kick
    Shure PG56 x3 on Toms
Presonus 1818VSL Audio Box 8 Channel Mic Pre Amp Interface

I want better Overhead Mics than what came with my mic package. I'm currently using Shure PG81 condensors and I have about $500 roughly to spend. Any suggestions or advice greatly appreciated

Within your budget, I would recommend a pair of sE Electronics x1S LDCs. They've been wording really nice for me. You can get them at Musician's Friend or Sweetwater.

What don't you like about your current overhead mics?
Do you just want to upgrade for the sake of it, or are they not working out for you?

I am struggling to get a decent consistent tone out of the PG-81 Condensor mics and I have a little money to upgrade so I'm looking for something a lil bit better

Contact them. They are custom on the spot with each order. I don’t know the exact price, but they are not cheap.

Can you elaborate on not being able to get a decent consistent tone? Just wondering what you are experiencing with the PG81s

I’m picking up static in my mix and like a low popping noise I tried positioning mics in different spots and directions but didn’t do anything

Could be as simple as a bad mic cable...I've had that issue before. I assume you have tried different XLR cables with these PG81s?
