    Default Sonor SQ1 anyone?

Anyone own or played the newish Sonor SQ1 birch kits? They look like a really nice high end kits, a bit more affordable than SQ2. Look kinda nice, certainly got my juices flowing.

personally not a fan of those thick heavy shells. . limits their tuning range.
but if tight and punchy is the only sound you're after, they do look great!

they must be full of attack, with such thick shells......toms are 7 plies 7mm thick with the BE's at 45degree ; bass drum 10mm thick. my cup of tea .

i like the idea behind the Sound Sustainer technology concept, and also the fact sonor apply a sealer inside all the shells on this specific series.

I have an SQ1 snare and it shocked me how good it sounds. I generally prefer Steambent single ply snares but this snare has really impressed the heck out of me. The dual glide strainer is my all time favourite strainer.

I had the chance to A/B three high end Sonor kits at the Chicago Vintage Drum Show last year, SQ1 , SQ2 Medium Maple and a Vintage series kit. The SQ1 was by far the nicest sounding of the three kits.

I bought an SQ1 in January of last year, and it's fantastic! This was my first experience with Sonor, and I'm super impressed. The quality is top notch, and I've never had a kit that tuned up so easily. I'll try to get some pictures up at some point soon. If you're in the market for a new kit, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger.

And here we go! Just got around to taking some pics today, and created a thread for it under 'Show Us Your Kits':
