Default Gretsch Renown, 22" bass drum, 8 lugs... Legit?

There's a guy on FB selling his Gretsch Renowns. He says the kick is 22". Yet it has 8 lugs (instead of the usual 10). I told him that I think it's a rewrapped/badged cheaper drum (Catalina maybe?), and that a Renown could have 8 lugs, OR be 22", but not both. But he says that it it's 22", AND has 8 lugs. Claims it's a "limited edition".

The only reason I even care is that I'd hate to see someone buy this thinking it's something that it's not. Have any of you ever come across a 22" Gretsch Renown with 8 lugs?

Renowns should have the silver interior paint, while Catalinas do not.

Yeah, but the inside of the drum is not visible. That's why I'm asking about the lugs.

How is Gretsch's customer service? Maybe you could email them and get a (hopefully) direct and concrete answer.

"Limited edition" sounds like horse**** to me.

Also, does it look like a 22 to your eye? Could he have the size wrong and it's a 20?

Do you mind posting a picture?

I thought it was a 20" as well, but when I asked, he swore that it was a 22". I asked for an interior picture, but no response yet.

I found plenty of 20" Renown kick drums with 8 lugs, but I can't find a 22" Renown kick drum with 8 lugs.

It looks small and strangely proportioned for a 22, but the spurs aren't set as wide as they would be on a 20.

    Is this a PDP?

Same mounting hardware, claws, and kick head. Also some similarities in the bass mount. Different lugs, badges and finish.
