Poplar, same as the shell as far as I know.
Pearl, Natal, Ludwig, Tama, Slingerland, Premier, Arbiter Drums
Zildjian, Sabian, Zyn Cymbals
PEARL, PREMIER, LUDWIG, TAMA, YAMAHA, NATAL and DW Snares
Roland, Dauz, FAT KAT and Koby Electronics, and loads of Percussion
5 Kits and 11 Snares, and I still don't have enough!
Animal,
They are poplar. However, if you want nicer glossy black maple hoops, you can spend about $120 and use a pair of the the 16" Pearl Competitor series 1.5" black marching bass drum replacement hoops. They are all maple and lacquered all around so they would really be a classy looking upgrade.
I've used them to replace damaged Masterworks hoops when I've had black kits, and you can't tell the difference.
