    Default Favorite Ride Cymbal

Over the years, I have owned many different ride cymbals and currently own two, a Zildjian 21" Sweet Ride and a 21" K Custom Special Dry Ride. I use them both for different situations however, I must say, the K Custom Special Dry Ride is the most unique ride I have ever played. I can only describe it as dark and radical and extremely fun to swing on! Very happy with this ride! Whats your favorite?

The ride on the right, Istanbul Agop 22" OM Ride. Super dark, trashy, slightly metallic stick sound, but relatively light. It's really dynamic, yet quite dry when played the right way. I can use it for super low volume stuff as easily as hard, loud, heavy crashing.

I have two that cover every gig and recording situation I do. Firstly, my most used ride is a Sabian Paragon 22" ride cymbal, Natural finish, with the perfect mix of ping, volume, a cutting bell, great definition and little wash, which I really like, as i'm not one to crash a ride, and this one certainly isn't suitable for that. Secondly, I have an 18" Super Zyn ride, which is perfect for lighter gigs, and sounds great played with rods. It's ideal for jazz and small function gigs.

There is already a thread for "the perfect all-around ride" but maybe someone's favorite ride is not necessarily great for all playing situations

Anyway, I'm (happily) stuck between two beautiful rides... a Zildjian K Custom 20" ride, and a Zildjian K Custom 20" Session ride. The plain custom ride has an amazing bell, more ping, and less wash, and the session ride may be close to the best all-around ride for me, because it has a great bell, moderate ping, and moderate wash... a little of everything. This is the K Custom 20" Session ride...

My favorite is my Sabian 21" Brilliant AA Dry Ride. It has a strong bell, ping quality, crash-able, warm undertones, and it's controllable. Works great for many different genres.

My favorite ride cymbal is absolutely Meinl Raker Heavy Ride 20" - old school anvil. Sometimes I use the same model but size 22" but mainly 20".

20" K Custom, 20" A Earth Ride, or 21" Z Mega Bell Ride (from the original Z range, pre Z Custom). I have a 20" Z Light Power Ride I'm also rather fond of, but it's small bell is it's flaw.

It's a Zildjian A Custom 20" China. I found it many years ago after trying so many, and I just like the way it sounds. I tried A Customs in other sizes, a 17" K, Orientals in sizes 16-20, and a few different Sabians... but I've always come back to this one.
