Default How bad is your GAS?

I'm fairly new to drumming,, I picked up the sticks again in February a little more than 10 years after my short experience of drumming in high school, and I've fallen in love with it like I did the first time around. Only this time, I have a space to play, and the money to actually acquire gear.

I'm crafty in that I will buy drum kits that have pieces that I want, sell the rest, and usually end up with minimal investment, and sometimes, even a profit. SO I've been able to acquire a large amount of quality gear in a short time. I still find myself looking at gear, especially snares and kick pedals, all the time. I'm never really satisfied until I've tried EVERYTHING. So I keep acquiring stuff.

Cleaned up my basement last night, and realized just how much stuff I have. Even knowing this, I'm still hunting for snares. How bad is your GAS?

Mine is not as bad as yours! You had an extra spicy burrito and then washed it down with broccoli smoothies!

But seriously, if you have the cash and like it, great, but I am only going to have a max of 2 drumsets, one for my household to never leave, and one to take on gigs/recording sessions.

I found my dream kit recently in mint condition and I will never need to buy another drumset again. my gig/recording set is also a great kit, I am selling what WAS my dream setup, only because I never thought I would own what I found recently.

I like having space in my house, and more money in my wallet, but that's just me. Unless you have the time to truly play all of those kits, spend all that time setting up, tuning, tearing down and then playing another kit, I personally would just pick your favorite 2-3 kits and sell the rest off. THAT'S JUST ME...

I used to have WAAY too many drum sets, but pared things down to just 3 shell packs, 6 snares, 2 sets of hardware and a couple full bags of cymbals. I still like new gear, so if I'm in the market for one thing, I sell off something else that way my basement doesn't look like a music store.... (like some people!)

I was terminal for a good long while, never happy with whatever I had. Looking back I had so many great drum kits that I should have and could have been happy with. In the end, I think GAS has more to do with filling a void in your life than it has to do with buying drum gear. Don't get me wrong, I love to collect things and I love drums. I think I am pretty happy with the gear I have now and I hope to keep it for a good while. I am very happy with the quality of pearl drums as well. My 1st kit coming back to drumming in 1997 was a pearl export ex, I feel like I have come full circle.

I know my wife would kill me if I had that much gear. I'm buying used cymbals here and there just to round out the profile I'm looking for - but I haven't thought yet about a second (or even third - ha!) set. Like I said, that's probably in my best interest.

That being said, your Mapex kit with HHX looks sweet!

5 kits, 8 snares, 20+ cymbals, tuned Percussion, timpani, loads of untuned percussion, studio rig, guitars, bass, amps for those, small PA, and all the hardware, mics, cables, stands and cases.

In short, yes I’d argue that mine is worse than most.

And my other kits; (unlike sticks, I can’t keep all of mine in one room)

I have GAS everyday that I (usually successfully) fight because I simply don't have the space, or need, for additional gear. I have two full kits (three if you count that one of my double bass kits is a hybrid of two five piece kits) and 5 snare drums. I have a full compliment of cymbals, with a few duplicates and additions I can swap out from time to time (different rides, hi hats, chinas, the odd crash and some old broken cymbals I sometimes use as stacks). Anything else is purely "because" rather than need, or even use.

Your drum shed is basically my dream home. Add a computer and a piano, and I'm set... Hopefully there's a toilet somewhere around there.
