Default Double Bass/7-piece Pearl Forum FZ refurbish.

    Hey, all.

It's been a while since I've set foot in here...
I recently put together this Pearl Forum FZ kit as practice/gig kit so I can leave my keller maple kit (in my signature) at home and for studio use.
I re-wrapped the drums with a matte black vinyl wrap and applied a couple of coats of tung oil inside the shells.

    Specs are:
    2-22x18
    10x8
    12x9
    13x11
    16x16
    14x5.5

    Cymbals:- All Paiste Signature Series
    8" & 10" Splash
    14" Dark Crisp Hi-Hats
    16" & 18" Thin China
    18" Fast Crash
    18" Full Crash
    20" Dry Heavy Ride

    Heads:
Evans G2 batter heads & Evans Resonant Black heads on all toms.
    Remo Powerstroke 3 BD heads.
Remo Controlled Sound & Remo Ambassador Hazy Snare Side head on snare.

All Pearl hardware except Axis A-Longboard pedals w/ E-kits.

That is so freakin' cool! What a way to take such an inexpensive low end kit and make it into a fine setup!

    Seriously, how do they sound?

    Thanks, team.

Yeah, they sound pretty good for a few hundred bucks, some TLC, decent heads and a good tune.
I recently put these to the test live for the first time with my band opening for Sepultura and Death Angel. The Death Angel drummer was using a Pearl Reference series kit and to be honest, the difference in sound definitely wasn't worth ten times the price for the Reference. Some people were pretty gobsmacked on how good a 'beginners kit sounded at a high profile show'.

Great job, it really looks just the ticket! I've long been an advocate of inexpensive live kits, especially in metal and hard rock where the head choice, tuning, gating and EQ'ing really don't permit much if any audible difference between top end and intermediate kits like Forums and Exports.
