18X14 Decade Maple Kick Without BB300???

Hello Everyone!

I'm looking to order a DMP1814BX/C228, the 18X14" decade maple kick in solid yellow, for those who don't memorize model numbers

I currently gig with a 16X14 export floor tom which has been converted into a kick, but have always wanted an 18" kick. I decided to do some research and discovered that the decade maple line has an 18X14, and it is quite affordable in comparison to the other lines. I quickly realized that only the 24" comes in a virgin configuration. I then found some listings that seemed to indicate that the 18" is available without the BB300.

I emailed USA support and they said yup, you can order it. I then contacted my local L&M and they said sorry, only the 24" is available without the tom mounts. I emailed support again and they said yes you can order it, try a different retailer. Hmm...

So I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here. Is there a specific model number that would relate to the virgin version of this drum? Or is it a "custom order" from the factory?

My final question is if the BBC-1 bass drum plate is compatible with the BB300 mount? I believe it was developed for the older BB3. Just want to confirm as I could order the standard version and then install the plate.

Well confirmed from another retailer only the 24" comes sans tom mount... boo.

So back to my second question. Does anyone know if the BBC-1 matches with the newer BB300 mounting footprint?

I really like my 16" floor tom conversion. Super punchy, tight, and never muddies up the mix. Great for the speedy garagepunkrock that we play. The 16 does lack a bit of low end of course, which is why I picked up a 20X15 CB last year. It sounds fine, but I'm missing that "smaller drum punch" that I get from the 16. I'm thinking the 18 will be a good mix between the two. Not to mention it should weight half of what the CB does. Man that thing is heavy!

WOW! So apparently the Canadian Pearl rep asked their contact in Japan (thought they were made in Taiwan, perhaps they manage the factory?) very nicely, and they said okay but only this one time. AMAZING! I'll be putting in my order later today (ETA November ).

Really great stuff. Thanks Pearl! Been supporting you since I bought my first kit (black on black export) 16 years ago, and after this you definitely have a customer for life!

Hello Everyone,

So 8 months later, and it's finally here! 18x14 virgin DM kick!




The kick and tom sound great. Took me quite a while to get the FT tuned up. I had a horrible time trying to tune the stock skins, but after picking up a Vintage coated emp, and clear amb, I was able to get a decent sound. The stock skins on the kick are sounding pretty good TBH. Think I'll hold off upgrading them for the time being.

I am a bit let down on the finishing though. On the 16" FT, the paint on the seam is lumpy. Also it feels like they forgot to sand the inside, as there is a bunch of grain lifting on one side and LOTS of tear-out at the seam (dull blade probably). I am more impressed with the kick (Even came with a BD pillow, and a velcro strip pre applied). The inside of the BD is much smoother, and there is no tear-out. There is a bit of paint missing on the front hoop, and when i went to attach my HPP2, it chipped the paint while I was sliding it on (hidden by the HPP2 so not bothered by it. Defiantly not the most durable finish. I think they would be pretty banged up after a few gigs, but this setup will be staying in the rehearsal space so nothing to worry about. They are budget drums, so I can't be too annoyed by any of the above points. They are sounding great and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

Yea getting it without the mount was the issue. Apparently it's not possible to get these in Canada, but the sales feller at L&M "knows a guy" haha.

Anyway, I ordered a custom hoop with a built in riser from a Canadian drum builder. Will be here in two weeks. Can't wait to get it on there! Did some testing with beater height and it is ever so slightly more punchy, with less note hitting it closer to the middle. Going to be wonderful

Update. I ordered a hoop with a riser from a custom drum company in Canada. It is a bit more simple than I though it would be considering the price but it seems to be working. The simple threaded screw system he has in place gives me a bit of adjust ability as well (got it matching my spur height perfectly). Compared the stock hoop, it seems to have slightly less volume, but increased sustain. Tone seems improved now as well. Much more punchy and less beach ball that's for sure! My only complaint is now that the beater is closer to the middle I'm fighting beater bounce when burying. I'm sure I'll get used to it. Defiantly not as bad as on my 22".

Ah yes and I decided to leave it raw primary to save money. I do a bit of wood working from time to time, so I might end up throwing some stain on there once the weather improves. That said, it's not the ugliest thing I've seen
