Okay, thanks for clearing that up on the VB series. I know that in my online searches there were many versions (VBL,VBX, VBA, etc.), so that makes sense. On the chrome, it does seems strange that they would have two different names for it, but I'm just going to assume they're the same since they're both listed as #49. I just wish I could know for sure before ordering.
What color did you want? MusiciansFriend and GuitarCenter have Jet Black and Mirror Chrome 8x7 toms.![]()
unfortunately ,im looking for the sbx's ...its for the best i suppose...if they were readily available, i couldn't afford them right now ..we've some medical issues right now so ,im helping out with my brothers bills.etc....so, spare dollars are hard to come by at the moment ..but thanks for the info ..
Thanks for all the responses. They've been helpful. Does anyone own a kit with the birch/basswood shells? I'm still wondering how they sound.
Vision VB shells are blended Birch/Basswood Shells .. and #49 Polished Chrome was wrap offered .. with good heads and good tuning they'll sound good .. I'm pretty sure it's 2 ply Birch interior and 4 ply basswood outer

I have a question for Al Percival: I have been performing on a Vision Bop kit I purchased from Rupps Drums in Colorado (my second such purchase...I also have a Bop in Tobacco Fade.) When I purchased the kit I had to wait a week for it to be shipped as it was the backline kit for the Telluride Jazz Festival. When I asked the salesperson about the kit going out for use on stage, he replied "this is a limited edition finish." Can you tell me roughly how many Vision Bop kits were imported in White Strata Pearl? Was this really a "limited edition?" I'm very pleased with both my bop kits. I average about a performance a week, and they are easy load-in, load-out and they sound wonderful. If mic'd properly, I don't think the smaller kick drum is significantly different from my 22" Vision kick.![]()

I have a VSX kit, blended shells. 8 ply bass and floors, 6 ply rack toms. The drums sound great. I think I remember the VB series going to straight 6 ply shells across the board. As good as these drums sound, I wouldn't wait on a special order unless you were getting them for next to nothing. Plenty of used kits out there in mint condition for a great price if you're dead set on a Vision kit. Really the earlier Vision kits were better anyway.
