    Default Todd Sucherman's New Kit

Just posted on his facebook wall. Quoted here

I came home yesterday and so did these: the new studio Pearl Masterworks kit! This is the Sonic Select Shell Studio Recipe which is 4 ply Maple, 2 inner ply Gum, 60 degree bearing edges with a Cameroon Black Limba outer ply. There’s a black burst over the Black Limba and the hardware is 24K gold which matches the rack from 2010. These drums just SING and sound as gorgeous as they look. Thanks to all at Pearl in Nashville and PMI in Japan. I look forward to making music on these for many years to come. Here are the specs of the new kit:
2- 22x16 Bass Drums (one with a pillow, the other open with a slave pedal.)
    14x5.5 Snare, 12x4.5 side Snare
    Rack toms 6x7, 8x7, 10x8, 12x8
    Floor Toms 14x14, 16x16, 18x16
    Gong Drum 20x14
    Rocket Toms 6x12,15,18,21 (four)

Beautiful drums of course. For me, the pics spark a comment and a question. First of all, TS's old gold hardware is really beat. My question is, did they print a wrap for the rocket toms, or did they use an actual veneer. My guess is, they printed a wrap, but I would like to know if they found a way to attach a real wood veneer to the metal rocket tom shells. I can't imagine that would endure the road and temperature fluctuations.

Assuming this is like the kit it replaced, it'll never leave his studio. He has a different rig for the road.

He said recently when announcing that he was getting a new kit that it would be the same as the old, in configuration, and the fact that it, like the Gold plated rack will never leave his studio. He has separate cased kits for road use with Styx, as HPD260 said.

Correct, he stated that this is strictly his studio kit but as D4L stated, some of his older hardware has seen better days...spending that kind of dough for such a beautiful kit, you'd think he'd upgrade some of the older gold hardware which is looking kind of ragged. Gorgeous kit either way!

Beautiful kit! . . . and a lot of bling (they must have ran out of gold for the other Gong Bass Drum tom arm).

The gong bass drum is only held in place by one tom arm . . . (because they must have ran out of gold to make it)
