I flipped mine on the 12x8 tom. I thought it would hide less of the shell.

Physically, I think it's safe to flip the Optimount; regardless, two small hex set screws hold the mount together. Tension rod holders are the same on the top and bottom, so it should be fine. Aesthetically, I don't find it attractive, probably because I'm comfortable with the factory-intended use of the mount. I would like to see what you come up with, so we can determine whether or not it's worth having the embossed ʇunoɯᴉʇdO logo upside down

It looks goofy, but if it works it's not so goofy.

Personally, I'd just leave them alone unless there's some compelling reason to flip them.

The amount of shell hidden behind the mount is the same no matter which way you position it though...

Thanks to all - I'm intent on streamlining the look, reducing the chrome and getting away from a rack and cymbal stands legs, etc.

    Rough pics in the future.

    That is funny but true.
Sorry I should have clarified (because you are so right on that) that the tom holder has to be higher with it mounted in the regular position. With it flipped, the tom holder which is mounted to the bass drum hides less of the shell.

Chad Smith did it back in the early 90's on his MLX kit... although he was using RIMS mounts, not Optis.

Not a huge difference but I like it. I think it cleaned the clutter atop the kick and displays the tom mo' better!
