I've never heard or played a Walnut drum kit but the Tama Star kit appeals to my senses. Stephen Colbert's house band's drummer started his show with a jungle Tama Star. Late in the year he added a rack tom on a stand. It's glossy Black but so killer looking. I'll never buy one but if you guys are suffering under the question; "What should I get Lonny for his upcoming birthday," here is your answer.

I won the gymnastics "Jambolli" in tumbling in 1971. I rarely hit the mats anymore (never) but used to do an occasional Kip or hand spring on the dance floor. I didn't even try out for UNM's Gymnastics Team because I was busy being a hippie intellectual. lol!

LOL Lonny! I understand the Star line it Tama's crème-de-la-crème, but I don't care for the tom mounts, the split and angled exotic outer plies, or the inlays. If they had full-sheet exotic finishes, Starclassic tom mounts, and abalone inlays, that would appeal to me more. That's why I went with Starclassics. But I will remember for your birthday that you like the Star line LOL!

Possible, IMO if any country had enough top level sailors for more than one team it would probably be NZ, but the cost would be prohibitive. Though our syndicate boss wants to make the design and manufacture costs come down to make it more accessible, so you will need millions not billions haha

For the US that is what I would have said too. Canadian Winter Olympic sports are somewhat obvious, I looked up the medal tally for the last Summer Games and Swimming/Diving, Athletics and Cycling did the best.

I'd like to see Lonny's Jambolli!

Didn't Simon Le'Bon, singer for Duran Duran try sail boat racing and crash or almost crash into some billion dollar yacht?

Not surprising. He doesn't look like he has much experience. He's sitting in the wrong place. And the clothes are all wrong.

Do you have to have the inlay on the Tama Star? I'm pretty sure the toms would come without mounts? Couldn't you just get Piano Black? Have you played one? Would their Maple sound better than Walnut?

I love to watch the ladies fly on the uneven bars! Men's parallel bars can't compare
The mats are done to music for the ladies. The Jambolli was only NMMI before graduation. This other guy's routine was so much better than mine but there was a drizzle rain and he did his next to the mats. They disqualified him so I won! LOL!

    Never liked Duran x 2.

Right! The story goes : After shooting this video Simon thought he could sail. So he tried a failed miserable! I'll see if I can find some specific info.

They do look finger licking good and they are amazing the way they fly on those bars flipping around, springing higher in the air and such! So beautiful and so talented plus strong, healthy, young. I could watch them all night and it's my fave part of any Olympic games!

Sharks off your coasts Paul! No surfing until the great whites go back to Florida!

I don't know why I'm infatuated with the Tama Star. Can it sound any better than our Maters? Of course not. Why would I sink money for an inflated curious Star when my drums already sound about as good as drums can sound. I need to get back into practice myself though still no current prospects.

I have played the Star Tigerwood snare drum, and was VERY close to buying it, but the cost was very high. Even with a nice discount, it was still going to be eight bills. Some of the Star drums do not have inlays. I know a little "secret," although it might be obvious once you think about it. Most of the exotic finish Star drums come with that angled, book match layout because their exotic veneer is not large enough to cover the floor toms and bass drums in one full sheet. This is at the Japanese factory. The exotic veneers offered on the Starclassic Maple/Bubinga drums made in China are a whole different story. They have completely different materials.

When I was picking out the specs for my kit, they offered me exotic bubinga outer veneer for my drums, but they would not offer the inlay... so you would see a seam. Imagine what this would look like with a middle seam and no inlay... not for me.
