Remo uses DuPont Mylar for all of its heads. Evans admits to using films from various manufacturers that work best for the sound they're trying to achieve, but they do admit to using DuPont Mylar on their G1 and G2 series. Both companies mount there heads in an aluminum hoop with epoxy, so an uncoated G1 and G2 should should exactly like an uncoated Ambassador or Emperor I've used both and see no real difference. Now if you're talking Coates head, that's a different story.
Yeah, I was referring to coated heads. Remos coated two ply seems to sound similar to Evans coated one ply to me, evidently it's the coating as you stated.

I'm a big fan of Aquarian heads when I can find them, but if I can't get them, I'll go for a Remo. A lot of the Evans stuff is just way too dead sounding imo

Just got aquarian super 2 clear for my toms. Quite nice tone and sound overall!!!! Eventhough had good results with clear emperors and G2 in the past.

I use remo and never had problem with them fitting properly.
To ease tuning , I tune them and let them set a few hours Then retune

Maybe I jumped the gun on downplaying the Remo Emperors a bit. After reading everyone's love for Remo, I went back and seated the heads really good, I'll admit, they were a little tougher to get tuned up than the Evans g2 but I've had them on my kit now for about a month and I have to say.. They sound awesome after being on the kit for a few days. The coating doesn't seem to be holding up as good as Evans heads and they're already turning black in the middle, which never happened with Evans but the sound is better than the G2 heads now that I've played them a bit. I'll definitely be going back with more coated emperors when these wear out.

I ditched Remo 2 years ago. Had an old set of Emperors on my Saturns for 5 years. Played beautiful the entire time, I just hated how filthy they had gotten. Got some new Emperors and the damn things went through the coating in 1 gig.

Argued with remo, got another set. Same thing. It wasn't even a hard gig, no dents, no spooning or stretching of the head. Looked brand new, minus the coating.

Made the jump to Evans, it's been 2 years and those G2's are kicking *** and even staying cleaner! Remo is junk, but gimme old school Remo Coated Abassadors anyday, if only they actually bothered to make them that way again.
I've been on the forum for 11 years??? What the heck have I been doing all this time??

I agree somewhat because it took me a few days to get used to the Emperors. They have to be seated and stretched really good, unlike Evans heads, to get a true sound from them but after that, they have a more pure drum tone to me than the Evans G2. The G2 had such a plastic attack sound to them that I didn't really notice much since I'd played them for so many years. The Remo seem to have that warm round tone once they're stretched really good

I love the way an Evans 360 head tunes up, it's almost night and day from a Remo head but that tone from a coated emperor is just beautiful sounding to me

agreed. if it wasn't of the touch of 2 ply heads that i don't like, it would be it, i like the color they gives to drums.
