Speaking of overlooking, I saw that the drum was originally listed on May 30, 2014 - I never saw it until August 24 . . .

I only encourage when I am paying, but I do like to share the joy in the journey with others. That is a crazy amount for shipping. I think we should start taking trips to NZ with oversized checked-in baggage - we can store our clothes inside of the shell.

True Andy that is the best way of getting a bass drum down here, I'm sure it could get on the plane as over sized baggage and for much less cost. Once I got my sister to bring 2 drum bags from Australia when taking a trip over, no cost!

To be honest I've been slow with that snare. I only just changed the stock head and then realised the snare wires need renewing (original set had been replaced). I should get them this coming week and then tune it up properly.

My forgotten steel snare was becoming a "case queen" so I pulled it out yesterday to change things up a bit.

So after playing the 14x5 Steel Ref for a while today, I would say the high overtones that snare provides have finally allowed my Octobans to seamlessly blend in with the rest of the kit. With my other snares, I was always distinctly aware of their "unique" presence and more cautious about incorporating them.
