Thanks Matt! This 4 piece kit is beautiful (one of my top 3 favorite Pearl finishes), very utilitarian, sounds great, and so much fun to play. I look forward to every opportunity to set it up and play it. I am thankful that the church does not have a "house" kit.

Hi Mike!!! It is great to hear from you and I hope you are doing well.

This combination of cymbals really support the music without drawing attention to me. They blend so well that it provides a base for everyone else to do their thing. Surprisingly, the Manhattan Jazzers are not dark, low pitched cymbals. Instead, they thinner and higher pitched, without any harsh attack sound and delayed activation time. I never thought cymbals marketed as a "jazz" cymbal would fit the bill, but they really do.

I was able to play again yesterday and decided to try a slightly different cymbal setup this time:
    • 14" SABIAN HHX Manhattan Jazz Hat Top (Top Hat) / 14" SABIAN Brilliant 14" HH Fusion Hat Top (Bottom Hat)
    • 7" SABIAN Vault Radia Nano Hats
    • 18" SABIAN HHX Manhattan Jazz Crash
    • 7" SABIAN Traditional AAX Max Splash
    • *22" SABIAN HH Sessions Ride
    • *16" SABIAN Brilliant AAX Thin Crash

When compared to the 21" AA Dry Ride that I have been using, I found that the Sessions Ride was able to provide a more balanced transition between the hi-hat and ride, along with the bow and bell at lower volumes, without drawing attention to itself - it fit very well within the mix. All in all, it seemed suitable to use this weekend since I was only accompanying a guitar and a bass. I am looking forward to seeing how it works with a larger group in the future.

The AAX Thin Crash and the 16" HHX Manhattan Jazz both have similar pleasing timbres that open up easily at lower volumes with cymbal swells and when crashed lightly. They also have complementary pitches to the 18" HHX Manhattan Jazz Crash. However, the AAX's higher pitch adds a bit more punch to the cymbal swells. On a side note, I found this cymbal at Dale's Drum Shop after testing about 30 different crashes against a few of my crashes (that have been lacking various qualities) and the 16"/18" Manhattan Jazz Crashes. Overall, I am very pleased with the new addition.

I prefer the sound of the 20" kick more than the 22". It is also significantly lighter than the 22".

I see. I have only had the chance to listen to YouTube recordings of various 20" bass drums, and I also prefer it over 22".

Do you have any recordings of your kit?
