    Default drumfreek's SC Bubinga

Being fairly new to the forum, I thought I'd share a little about me as well as my current kit. Prior to this kit, I had a 5 piece Pearl Export for 12 years and during the time added more and more to it - a double pedal, more cymbals, a rack, etc. About two years ago I began contemplating ordering a new kit, something mid- to high-end and started looking at the major drum companies to see what options were out there. My feeling was if I was going to order something new, it would make sense to get what I really wanted rather than making some sacrifices on number of drums, sizes, etc. and regret it later. I ended up choosing Tama because among other things, I liked that their mounting system doesn't obscure or block the finish, I loved the combination of the white/silver with black nickel and their price came in lower than most others (I was using list prices so this may not be entirely accurate). I submitted the order in August 2012 and got them by February 2013.

As far as any modifications go, the only thing I altered was the rack. To help with positioning tom and cymbal arms 3" were cut off both ends of each bar. Once I got everything situated, I also cut down the vertical pipes which was mainly for positioning with the two splashes in front. My take on getting matching hardware for this was that to some extent I would try but price and function also were determining factors. The rack is obviously Pearl, again because of price and I love the look of it. All other hardware except the bass drum pedals are Tama. I will post updates to the kit as they occur, but without further adieu, specs and pics:

Very nice. Not usually a fan of white kits but I like it with the stripe.

You're the first person I've ever seen with that inordinately complicated locking mechanism for the hi-hat, the Tama Cobra Clutch. But you also have a drop clutch. Why the double duty?

Actually it was a video of Gavin Harrison that made me consider using both. I liked using a drop clutch but the only problem I had with it is that when the hi-hat is closed it still is somewhat loose in that there's nothing really keeping it tightly closed. I would say I use both of them equally tho, just depends what sound I want.

Thanks! I am hoping to get everything over to Meinl eventually. The ZXT is sort of a place holder until I can get something better in there.

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! They sound amazing (and LOUD)! It's a big step up from an Export for sure and they are a blast to play.
