Hi friends, I've been away for a bit, so first off, thanks for the compliments/comments I've received since last time!

I wanted to share that I caved and recently ordered the matching 14x6.5" Reference Pure snare for my set, so hopefully I should have pics soon.

I currently have a 14x6.5" Ludwig Black Beauty (brass, hand hammered) with tube lugs, which is amazing. I'm not quite sure what to expect from a thin-shell wood snare in comparison, but I love the rest of my kit, so hopefully I feel the same about the snare.

Expect some feedback once I get it; I haven't really seen any talk about the Ref Pure snare around here, so I'm guessing it may be helpful in case others are considering the purchase also.

It took me a bit longer to get a pic on here, but here she is. I have to say after spending a bit of time with it, this is the best snare I've played on. I will even say I think I prefer it over my hammered Black Beauty with tube lugs.

The 14x6.5 REFP snare is much louder than I thought it would be for how thin the shell is. I'd say it's louder than my Black Beauty. The sensitivity is amazing; sometimes when you barely tap a snare, you get some of the hollow drum sound without much snare response (regardless of what snare strands being used), but this drum has amazing response at all dynamics. It's "crack" is unrivaled as well. With the stock ambassador/window pane head, you get a ton of crack to it, as well as some ring. I've since switched to using a coated Emperor, which still has a lot of crack, but seems more balanced in terms of ring...not sure which I prefer yet, but this seems like a good compromise. I'd be afraid to try a coated CS, in fear that I'd lose too much of the drum's natural tone and response.

The quality is also what you'd expect from a $925 drum. There is no "latching" feeling when raising or lowering the snares -- it's all one smooth motion and you don't hear anything clicking into place. And let me say, the hardware is SOLID.

Let me know if you have any questions about it.

Very nice indeed. I love the solid snare throw too, being a RFB owner.
