Wink Jimmy DeGrasso Signature Snare Owner's Thread

Hi There, This is a thread for people who have or are interested in this snare drum.

If you have this drum, How's it set? How do you go about tuning it? What heads do you like to use on it? Feel free to post pics and sound samples.

Being the owner of one of these, I'd be happy to give information I can about it!
I may even post sound samples of my own current setup.

Looking forward to hearing from you folks.

    Regards- Iain

Everywhere I have played the Degrasso, It sounded great! It's sounds so bright! Good thing about a bright drum is you can dampen it down. I play very lightly though, so for me this ultra-sensitive "black beauty" feel is ideal. It came with a single Remo Ambassador coated, I have tried an Ambassador X which is thicker, and a Powerstroke 3.. But I found these heads to take away the warmth and sensitivity. I am happily using a coated Evans G2 and I am delighted with this head. Also looking forward to trying Aquarian modern vintage when it arrives (from amazon). Regards - Iain

I've got a DeGrasso and love it.

Fitted out with Ambassador X top, and hazy Ambassador reso. Also put Blasters on for snare wires.

Mine sounds quite deep, but I've not really cranked the tension on it yet.

Nope, I live in the area, and been to gigs there, but never played there.

I have a customized JD1455 with all black hardware, Mastercast hoops, and classic tube lugs. You can see it in my snare drum thread.

I have this snare, IMO, its one of the best looking snares out there, it sounds really great (not too tinny). I have a lot of snares and I grab this the most. The first thing I did when purchased was take it apart and put two coats of activated hardened wax on it (ZAINO).
In 2 years it is still spotless, wipes clean with a soft cloth.
