I'm glad they brought back the Exports too.

My first real kit was a 1997 Export Select in Ebony mist. I used to get so many compliments from many sound guys on how good those drums sounded

You would think that if Pearl brought back the Export with the new EEX they would be made of better wood like Maple or Birch rather than Poplar/ Mahogany mixture if you know what I mean. I am disappointed in the price on these new EEX they are really low end entry level. Why?

The last Exports before being discontinued were 100% Maple and were called ECX

One question someone asked me about the opti-loc mount. With the mount being inserted into the vent hole will that affect the sound of the drum. Or did they compensate with another vent hole.

I never noticed before when I was looking at the pics of the EXX that there was a vent on the left hand side of the bagde and the opti-loc is on the opposite side. So it made sense for them to add another vent hole. Look at the pics and you will see what I mean. Not the pics above cause they are the older Exports you will have to go the product page to see.

They come with 2 vent holes. The optilock mounting system is shaped so there are holders on 2 lugs and another piece that fits perfectly into one of the air vents. It's another Pearl innovation.

It's funny you mention that cause I heard on another bias Pearl forum that Pearl basically stole the idea for that drum mount opti-loc from Yamaha parts bin LOL. Not sure about 2 badges though Nova.

Export rack toms are equipped with Pearl’s new Opti-Loc Mounting System that features a triangular design with two tension rod attachment points and another through one of the drum’s two air vents. Rubber isolators at all connection points allow the drums to vibrate freely for maximum sustain and resonance while providing absolute and wobble-free performance. Opti-Loc Suspension Tom Holder.

That Green Export set senabatera displayed up top was the exact finish of my first Exports. Mine were only a 4 pc but we both had chrome snares and the long lugs and That color of green. I wish I was digital then. My picts are in a scrap book.
