My dealer explained to me that Ludwig, Gretsch, DW, Pearl, and Gibraltar were all essentially the same hoops, coming from the same factory and warehouse. Tama hoops are a little different, maybe even a little nicer, but almost 40% more expensive. It mainly came down to cost, since Ludwig had the form factor I wanted, and the most reasonable price.

Default Not quite one-of-a-kind, but not a snare you see every day...

A couple months ago, I asked Chris at Drums on Sale if he would approach Ludwig about making an "Acrophonic" snare, similar to the limited edition hammered ones they are currently offering, but with specs I prefer. They were happy to do it! Chris liked the idea, so he ordered a second one. Marv (quicksticks) snatched up the other one. I was then going to call it "1 of 2", but then found out Chris ordered 2 more. So this is likely 1 of 4, but Marv's and mine have diecast hoops. The addition 2 going to Drums on Sale have 2.3mm flange hoops.

Anyhoo... here is my idea brought to life. Thanks to Ludwig, and Chris at DOS!

Why did you go with the shorter lugs that expose more of the threads from the tension rods?

That's not a choice. When you get tube lugs, you get those, which are beautiful. If longer ones were available, I wouldn't have chosen them.

Thanks TM. It's really nice that they all have newer, contemporary strainers. I did not care for the old P85 and P86 throw offs, or the butts that required a screw driver to adjust the snare wire straps.

Hey Mike! I'm glad to see you posting a little more frequently these days; it's nice to know you're around. I've been making changes and additions to my collection; it's a fun hobby! How is your Masters kit doing?

She’s great. I am really proud of her. You won’t believe how big she’s getting since the last time you saw her. What a beauty she’s becoming. She looks just like her mother......oh, wait.

Hey Mike, when I heard that Ludwig was making a one of a kind D4L model Acrophonic snare exclusively for Matt, I called Chris to see if I can get in on the action.
