It's an interesting shell construction... one long 3mm ply of oak, rolled into 3 plies... 9mm total.

It looks fantastic with that grain and color (and I'm not a big fan of wood grain snare drums).

Now all of my Tama snares have cast hoops... I'm setting up the oak now to go onto the kit.

That's absolutely gorgeous. I love oak on snare drums, it's got a ton of balls, but you can still get a really nice crack out of it.

It's a very nice drum... it's nice having the reduced set of snare wires, you still get snare sound, but you get more sound from the shell, and nice woody tone. I might use this drum next. Right now, I'm enjoying the Fat Spruce.

Here are a couple new shots of my DW Stainless Steel snare with nickel hardware. I just put a new head on it... and may put it on my kit later today.

I finally snagged the snare I was hunting for... the big brother of my MP125... the MP1455. This one is one of the originals... #47, from about 15 years ago. The shell is perfect. I'm waiting on some parts for it, but I will post pics once it's done.
