Not even remotely aesthetically pleasing, I've taken this 1993 Pearl Export Pro 14x6.5 Steel snare to hell and back and it still sounds great. It's my favorite snare right now. Name: 001.jpg

Yes... he built a 26' fiberglass sail boat by himself... from scratch. He used plans from a boat company called Roberts. Anyway, he now has a 30' sail boat that he enjoys. I hate the idea of him sailing it alone, because he is almost 80 years old, but I'm not going to tell him what to do

Lately, I've been really working with my Masterworks one-off snare. It is 14x6.5, one outer ply of bubinga, 9 middle plies of maple and 10 inner plies of African mahogany. It has sharp 45 bearing edges... so sharp, I've already gone through a couple snare side heads. What I'm coming to appreciate about this drum is, when tuned high, it still has some depth and throatyness to it, while obviously projecting the bright crack you'd expect from a higher tuning. I've also learned how to adjust it's 3 sets of snare wires to get a broad snare sound, while completely eliminating all snare buzz (even will 11 other toms causing sympathetic vibrations).
That is one of the most beautiful snares my eyes have laid sight on.
What finish is that? Does Pearl still make it in Bubinga?

Do you have any recordings of this beauty?
