    Hi,

The warm weather inspired me to build another addition to my personal "Custom Alloy Bronze" series using 3mm bell bronze shells. This one is 14x8.

Hardware is Pearl ARL-65 lugs, Pearl SR-150 strainer, Pearl Fat Tone hoops, Pearl SST-055 tension rods, and Pearl Ultrasound 42-strand wires. Even with the lighter hardware, the drum weighs 20 lbs.

I just added this drum to my snare collection post, but since I figured it seems like a good one to show off here also. It appears to be a drum Pearl used for photos.

Daaaaaamn!!! Does this mean you have a spare bronze shell laying around? Or did you just come across the badge by itself?

    Hi Tasty,

I pick up the bronze shells (and badges) whenever I can get them cheap. I've resold all of the shells so far.

The next time I come across a custom alloy bronze shell, I'll let you know. There are still a couple more sizes I want to build from the bell bronze shells so I need a couple more of the badges.

I think this Joyful Noise snare looks fine, but all the hardware is just the generic stuff sold by dFD. The steel shell is also available everywhere online.

What is it about this brand that makes them so expensive?

Chris, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The only "generic" parts on a Joyful Noise might be the tension rods, and screws that attach the hardware to the shell.

The shell is seamless, solid brass, chrome-plated and hand-engraved. The hoops are chrome-plated, solid brass. The tube lugs are solid brass Corder tube lugs, made in the US. The throw off and butt plate are proprietary. The badge is 24K gold-plated.

You can decide not to appreciate a finer quality drum, but at least educate yourself before you type a pile gibberish that has no basis in fact.

Thanks Matt! Musicman post is wrong on so many levels. Everything is inaccurate.
The shell, lugs and hoops are nickel-plated, not chrome-plated.

So I'm wrong too... LOL... at least I knew it wasn't a steel shell with parts from DFD.

    What else is proprietary?
