It looks like a cast phosphor bronze shell. There is no "bell brass" (except in mistaken Tama branding).

This in my Gretsch USA Custom Bell Brass Snare that I bought in August of 2018. It's a winner.

That's a real beauty. I'm in the process of trying to special order a bell brass just like that, but with a dual-adjust strainer, and solid brass tube lugs. I haven't heard back yet from the Gretsch dealer about that request.

I bought this 2003 DW/Craviotto steam bent single ply flame maple snare this past March. It is pretty much the ultimate rock and roll drum, plenty of body and a thunderous rim shot.

Another favorite is my Gretsch USA Stanton Moore Signature snare. 4 1/2" deep steam bent single ply Birdseye maple.

This had been on the local FB marketplace for over two years, a mid-1990s Pearl Masters B-5314D brass snare. But I didn't bite because the price was too high, and the seller wouldn't budge. This month I had saved enough money to get myself a nice 14x6.5. Someone beat me to an early 2000s Sensitone Brass and a current model Sensitone Aluminum. So I took a chance and contacted the seller of this one. Surprisingly, she responded by finally slashing 25% off. The original Pearl case was a bit musty, but the drum was apparently never used. The shell is spotless. I'm going to dust everything, take the hoops off and put some wax so it doesn't pit, then spot some lithium grease on the tension rods.

    Merry Christmas to me :-)

Nice purchase. It's very hard to find those shiny brass shells in perfect condition (or to even find a third party shell in the shiny brass finish to build your own).

I was quite surprised about the condition too, considering it was merely stored in a leather case all these years, and my country is very hot and humid year round. Any advise how to prevent patina spots? Im afraid acid or abrasive will wear away any clearcoat it may have.

Thanks. I have a lot of great snare drums, this is one of the standouts.
